It Takes a Village is a support group that the “Parents for Parents Program” offers to discuss healthy relationships and boundaries. The facilitator discusses the importance of self-care and what it looks like. Individuals practice mindful exercises and talk about meditation techniques. Veteran group members with successfully closed CPS cases discuss how to respond and manage difficult behaviors regarding their child’s feelings, emotions, and needs. The group members are taught effective parenting techniques that have worked and ones that do not. Parents with open CPS cases are empowered by being knowledgeable of protective factors that reduce safety concerns. Dorothy Gorder, the Program Coordinator, assists parents in reducing barriers that lead to reunification with their child/children.
